Ingredients
1
unbaked 9-inch pie crust
store-bought or homemade
1 ½
cups
granulated sugar
¼
cup
all-purpose flour
¼
teaspoon
salt
1
cup
whole milk
2
large eggs
lightly beaten
1
teaspoon
vanilla extract
½
cup
unsalted butter
melted
¼
teaspoon
ground nutmeg or cinnamon
optional, for topping
Instructions
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan and crimp the edges as desired.
Prepare the Filling:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt until combined.
Add the milk, beaten eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
Stir until smooth and fully incorporated.
Assemble the Pie:
Pour the filling into the prepared unbaked pie crust, smoothing the top with a spatula.
Sprinkle a light dusting of nutmeg or cinnamon over the top for extra flavor, if desired.
Bake the Pie:
Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the filling is set and slightly golden on top.
The center should have a slight jiggle but will firm up as it cools.
Cool and Serve:
Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing.
Serve at room temperature or chilled, depending on preference.
Notes
Thicker Filling:
Use
half-and-half
instead of milk for a creamier texture.
Flavored Twist:
Add a splash of
lemon juice
or
almond extract
to enhance the flavor.
Pie Crust Options:
Use a
graham cracker crust
for a sweeter, crunchier base.
Prevent Overbaking:
The pie should still have a slight jiggle in the center when removed from the oven. It will firm up as it cools.
Golden Top Tip:
For an even golden finish, lightly brush the crust edges with
egg wash
before baking.
