Ingredients

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust store-bought or homemade
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg or cinnamon optional, for topping

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan and crimp the edges as desired.

Prepare the Filling:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt until combined.
  • Add the milk, beaten eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
  • Stir until smooth and fully incorporated.

Assemble the Pie:

  • Pour the filling into the prepared unbaked pie crust, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  • Sprinkle a light dusting of nutmeg or cinnamon over the top for extra flavor, if desired.

Bake the Pie:

  • Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the filling is set and slightly golden on top.
  • The center should have a slight jiggle but will firm up as it cools.

Cool and Serve:

  • Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing.
  • Serve at room temperature or chilled, depending on preference.

Notes

  • Thicker Filling: Use half-and-half instead of milk for a creamier texture.
  • Flavored Twist: Add a splash of lemon juice or almond extract to enhance the flavor.
  • Pie Crust Options: Use a graham cracker crust for a sweeter, crunchier base.
  • Prevent Overbaking: The pie should still have a slight jiggle in the center when removed from the oven. It will firm up as it cools.
  • Golden Top Tip: For an even golden finish, lightly brush the crust edges with egg wash before baking.
